LANGUAGES IN
HONG KONG
AS A MELTING POT OF VARIOUS CULTURES, Hong Kong embraces a fascinating cultural and linguistic diversity which transcends over 50 cultures and 70 languages. Yet, does this seemingly metropolitan city really succeed in catering the minority languages in Hong Kong? Are all the minority languages and cultures respected here?
This website aims to raise the awareness of Hong Kong citizens towards the minortity languages speaking around the city by evaluating and analysing the interviews conducted with 5 foreigners living here. They are native speakers of Punjabi, Tamil & Sinhala, German, Hindi & Indonesian, and Korean.
It is hoped that visitors of this website can learn more about the circumstances of minority languages in Hong Kong and develop a stronger sense of recognising, appreciating and respecting these languages.
